Operating leadership for a defined season

JJ Phoenix is my fractional and interim operations practice. Some organizations need an experienced operating leader for a season rather than a permanent seat, and the season deserves a real leader rather than a report.

When organizations call

A chief operating officer departs and the work cannot pause while the search runs. A young organization has grown past the point where the executive director can hold operations alongside everything else. A merger, a funding change, or a new strategic plan has arrived, and the operating practice needs to catch up quickly.

In each case the organization needs someone who will hold the seat, make decisions, and leave the practice standing after the engagement closes.

How engagements run

Interim operating leadership

I hold the seat during a transition, carry the decisions, and prepare the handoff so a permanent leader inherits a working practice rather than a backlog.

Fractional operations leadership

I work at a defined weekly commitment with organizations that need senior operating judgment without a full-time seat, staying long enough for the practice to hold on its own.

Defined-scope engagements

Some organizations need one thing done well: decision rights named, a strategic plan translated into operating practice, or a multi-site standard set. I scope the work, complete it, and document what remains.

How I begin

Every engagement opens with a short conversation about what the organization is carrying right now. I will tell you honestly when the work needs a different kind of help, and I would rather say so early than bill for a poor fit.
